Welcome to the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Local #612 Home Page
Local 612 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
originated on July 1, 1979. There were 25 charter members.
While organizing for a union, IBEW was narrowly selected over
UWA.

Ray Sanford and Ted Hiiva were the first candidates for president
of the union. Dave Herriott and Dave Savoy ran as Vice-
presidents.

Ted Hiiva was the first president of IBEW Local #612. The first
meeting was held at the North Conference Room at the Power
Plant. This was also where the election was held to become a
union.

There have been ten presidents with four being in the first two
years of the union alone. This was due to a large turnover in
positions. Presidents through the years in order were: Ted Hiiva,
Dave Herriott, Jim Jordan, Steve Keller, Robin Moede, Richard
Smith, Rock McKewen, Larry Buchanan, Brad Thompson, and
present day president Greg Masie.

Local 612’s home has moved frequently. After the initial meetings
held at the Power Plant, Local #612 has held meetings in the
basement of the old Sears Building (present day Sister’s
Closet?), in the Mini Mall, the Jaycee Hall and the current site is
the VFW Hall.

The initial Control Room Operator wages were $9.90 an hour.

Today IBEW Local 612 has 250+ members encompassing
Eastern Wyoming and the Western Panhandle of Nebraska.
